Frequently Asked Questions

Before booking

Luckily Machu Picchu is open 7 days a week, all-year round. Our recommendation is to visit between April through May and from September through October. June, July and August is when the weather is best, but also the busiest.

Machu Picchu is located 80 km from the City of Cusco. The Inca site sits atop a mountain next to the small town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town).

Exploring Machu Picchu is not strenuous at all. To reach the Inca citadel, you have the option of either a 1.5-hour hike up or a 20-minute bus ride. Once at the site, it’s just like walking around any other city – it’s even at a lower altitude than the city of Cusco!

Yes. You’ll need your original passport to enter Machu Picchu.

Yes, all treks/tours come with the Machu Picchu entrance ticket included.

The briefing is a short 15-30 minute meeting where we’ll explain the whole plan of your tour/trek, give you all the needed instructions, and possibly all your entrance tickets printed (if not they’ll be given to you when the activity begins). It’ll take place at your hotel/hostel reception area, the night before the activity at 6pm.

Yes, a permit is needed for the Inca Trail. All our Inca Trail tours include the permit.

We accept credit/debit card payments (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) and PayPal.

Yes, there are student discounts! These discounts are only available if you have a valid Student ID provided by your college/university. You must bring this ID with you to Machu Picchu.

It depends on the tour you’re planning on going on.

  • Inca Trail: It’s best to book at least 6 to 8 months in advance. Due to popularity, tours/permits tend to sell out fast.
  • Salkantay Trek: 3 months in advance
  • Inca Jungle Trek: 3 months in advance
  • Machu Picchu Tours by Train: 1 month
  • Machu Picchu Tour by Bus: 1 month

Note: These are just suggestions as reservations vary, which is why we strongly recommend booking as early as possible.
