Overview:

The Inca Jungle 4 Day Trek is a truly spectacular adventure going “off the beaten path”. Combining mountain biking, rafting, and trekking through our Andean mountains, the rainforest, the wilderness, and the Urubamba River; finishing at one of the seven wonders of the world: Machu Picchu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Huamanmarca – Pispitayoc

The 4-day trek starts with us picking you up between 6:00am and 06:30am at your hotel/hostel. From there, we make our way to Ollantaytambo at the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing by beautiful villages and breathtaking scenery. Once there, we’ll have breakfast and stock up on any last things needed. At around 8:15am, we head towards Abra Malaga where our first bike adventure begins! We bike down for 3 hours passing through villages, orchards, rivers and stream, to the town of Huamanmarca.

Once there, we’ll be serve a buffet-lunch made of local dishes. We continue our trip to Santa Maria where the group gets divided in two: the ones who booked the rafting and the ones who didn’t.

Those who have the rafting booked will be taken to the rafting camp, where the briefing, instructions and top-quality protection gear will be given. The rafting guides are well trained and have tons of experience on the river making it an exciting experience.

If the river is too strong due to weather reasons, the rafting will be cancelled and you will be refunded the full amount.

Those who didn’t book the rafting will be taken to the town of Santa Rosa with our other guide on our private mini-van. From there we start a 45 minute walk to La Choza Eco Lodge, where we’ll have the chance to pick coca leaves, coffee beans and fruits and vegetables.

At the end of the rafting adventure, the mini-van will be waiting for the group to take them to the town of Santa Rosa to also go on the walk and meet the rest of the group at the eco lodge.

Lastly we’ll have dinner with the group and stay the night at La Choza.

Day 2: Pispitayoc – Cocalmayo – Santa Teresa

We wake up at 7:00am to have some nice breakast with a cup of home-grown coffee. Once we’re all done around 8:00am we start our hike along the river and reach an original Inca path. Although not part of the Classic Inca Trail, it’s still one that the Incas uses and it’s in good condition. Throughout the path we’ll see fruits and wildlife in this rich jungle ecosystem.

Once at the top we get to witness the whole valley of the lower Urubamba. We’ll walk down the mountain towards the village of Qellomayo and have a well deserved lunch. You’ll also have some free time to relax and rest in one the hammocks.

From there we continue our adventure, this time a 3-hour walk to Cocalmayo (hot springs) passing by farms, waterfalls and crossing a river with a cable car! Once in Cocalmayo we’ll make good use of the springs and enjoy a relaxing evening in warm waters.

After the hot springs we finish we a 40 minute walk (or bus if you prefer) to the town of Santa Teresa, where you will check in to a comfortable hotel. After dinner you all are invited to visit one of the bars to hang out with the other members of the group.

Day 3: Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes

We start the day off with a typical breakfast at 7:00am, before getting ready to continue on to the next stop.

Again the group will split up into two: those whole booked the zip-line experience and those who didn’t. The group that didn’t book the zip-lining experience will go on a 3-hour hike through the valley to Hidroelectrica. The zip-line group will go on the zip-line and be taken by a mini-van to Hidroelectrica to meet up with the rest of the group.

Here we will enjoy lunch, followed by a small break and then continuing along the jungle. We reach  the town of Aguas Calientes around 4pm. We’ll spend the night in a hostel. At night we will all get together in a local restaurant to enjoy a dinner together and have a briefing about the most important experience: Machu Picchu!

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

The big day is finally here.

We wake up early, have breakfast and start our climb to Machu Picchu. The walk up the stone steps takes around 2 hours and it offers amazing views of the sunrise. You also have the option to take the bus up to Machu Picchu which costs $12. Once we arrive our 2-hour guided tour of the Inca citadel begins. You learn everything about the Incas, their culture and Machu Picchu while you visit all the important areas of the ruins.

After your tour, you’ll have free time to explore the site by yourself and to climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain if you had requested previously. In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo from where we’ll take you back to Plaza San Francisco in Cusco.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have problems with altitude sickness on this tour?

Altitude sickness can catch many travelers a little bit off guard. It’s impossible to know who will get affected by it. Some don’t even feel it at all! For most, it’s nothing more than a headache and a dizzy sensation that goes away over a short period of time.

If you want to limit your chances of getting sick, there are a few things you can do. The most important thing to do is acclimatize in Cusco. Take it easy on the first day or two, eat small meals, get plenty of rest and drink water. Other alternatives are Soroche (Diamox) pills and coca leaves.

It’s also important to speak to your physician to make sure you don’t have any underlying conditions.

What is the group size?

Our tour departs with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 8 people.

If looking to book a private group tour or solo tour, contact us and we’ll organize one for you.

Do you arrange trips for solo travelers?

There’s nothing like that feeling of discovering a new place all by yourself and we can help you with that. Whether looking to travel alone part of a journey or the whole trip, simply contact us and we’ll create the perfect plan.

Can I book a private group tour?

How far in advance should I book the Inca Jungle Trek?
